United Way announces Emergency Food & Shelter Funds available

Kandiyohi County has been chosen to receive $4,437 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county. The Local Board, chaired by the United Way of West Central Minnesota, will determine how funds will be distributed to local emergency food and shelter programs in Kandiyohi County.  The intent of EFSP funding is to address hunger and homeless needs to make a difference – not to simply spread dollars among all eligible applicants.

Funding in 2015 provided 1,400 meals and shelter for 40 individuals/families

Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local agencies chosen to receive funds must:
1) be private voluntary non-profits or units of government
2) have an accounting system

3) be eligible to receive Federal funding
4) practice nondiscrimination
5) have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs

6) if they are a private voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board.

Qualifying agencies are urged to apply.

Public or private voluntary agencies interested in applying for Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds should contact United Way of West Central Minnesota at 235-1050 or email Teresa@liveunitedwcm.org with their intent to apply.  The deadline for applications to be received is September 13th, 2015.  At 9:00 am that morning a meeting will convene with the local board to determine funding allocations.   Applications are available upon request.
