Lynsey Pierce – The Village Director

Lynsey Pierce – The Village Director

Recently, the Village Children’s Museum in Willmar, MN was acquired as a new program of the United Way of West Central Minnesota. We are thrilled about plans to make the museum even more impactful to families in our communities, and we are so excited to announce the new Director for the museum, Lynsey Pierce. Lynsey is the newest member of the United Way team, and looks forward to combining her love of education, passion for children and families, and dedication to serving our community.

Lynsey is a lifelong resident of West Central Minnesota. Born and raised on a dairy farm outside of Kandiyohi, her roots here run deep. As a child on the farm, Lynsey watched the dedication and compassion her parents demonstrated each day as they cared for their animals and the land they tended. This had a great impact as Lynsey knew she wanted to care for and serve others even from a young age. Initially, she thought being a vet would be the right avenue to fulfill those goals, but after watching their local vet perform a few surgeries it was clear the path of veterinary medicine wasn’t going to be the right fit. Thankfully, her Grandma June stepped in and together found a shared passion, Elementary Education. This soon became a common love between the two of them.

Her efforts to achieve her goal of teaching began by her volunteering in the local elementary school and working at a childcare center after school. Her passion for teaching and service continued to grow and after graduating from New London-Spicer High School, Lynsey attended Ridgewater College and Southwest Minnesota State University majoring in Early Childhood Education. Lynsey has served as an educator in several roles throughout the area including assistant teacher, classroom teacher and preschool director. In each role, she worked to make connections to the children and families she served, understanding that the most lasting impact in education is made when you focus on who you are teaching, instead of what you are teaching.

Lynsey met her husband Joey in high school, and both feel blessed to raise their family in the same area in which they also grew up. Joey and Lynsey are still involved in agriculture and are excited Kara (8) and Ryson (5) get to experience life on the farm, and all that goes with it including mud pies and tractor rides. Most importantly however, they are proud to pass on the compassion and dedication farmers have for their animals and the land they tend to a new generation. As a family, they love to get outside and be a part of the many activities West Central Minnesota has to offer. Lynsey loves to fish, boat, swim, four-wheel, attend musical events and plays, cook, read, craft, and spend as much time as possible with her family and friends.

Lynsey focuses on creating an educational environment which is both engaging and interesting. She is excited to bring this intensity to The Village Children’s Museum. Lynsey sees The Village as an opportunity to help in bringing our community together. Under her leadership, we look forward to The Village becoming a vessel for creating meaningful interactions between children, families, and the community at large, and encouraging children to pursue learning in the way they were meant to, through play! Lynsey looks forward to curating exhibits and creating partnerships at The Village to welcome all those in our community. Her hope is these exhibits allow children to pursue knowledge and develop the social and emotional skills they need to be successful their whole life through. One area she is especially joyful about is the ability to help connect members of our community to the support systems available through the United Way and our community service partners. Even more, the prospect of finding new ways for us all to support one another. The service area of the United Way of West Central Minnesota is large, and problem-solving different ways The Village can engage each community we serve is a challenge Lynsey is primed to tackle. We are grateful to have Lynsey join us in reaching our communities in an exciting new way. Together, we can all LIVE UNITED!
